McCafé

When McDonald’s decided to compete with Starbucks by introducing their McCafé, they updated the majority of their 500 plus stores in Florida. McDonald’s then split the workload among a handful of architectural firms, with PDG receiving the largest portion (193 stores). McDonald’s established an abbreviated timeline of six months for the design and permitting phases, which PDG met and, as a result, acquired extra sites. Preparation for retrofitting involved preliminary surveys, including interior design, kitchen equipment placement, and electrical layout. Working with Bovis Lend Lease, McDonald’s corporate and franchise owners, developed designs that were both functional and architecturally appealing.
